UK Gambling Minister Ensures Financial Checks Will Not Harm Horseracing
In response to concerns raised by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) and industry stakeholders, UK Gambling Minister Stuart Andrew has confirmed that financial spending checks will not negatively impact the horseracing sector. A petition launched by Nevin Truesdale, Chief Executive of the Jockey Club, garnered significant support, surpassing 100,000 signatures, leading to a parliamentary debate on the issue.
During the debate, Andrew acknowledged the concerns about financial checks affecting horseracing and emphasized the sector’s importance to the economy and rural communities. He reassured that the government would take steps to ensure the checks do not disrupt the horseracing industry, its participants, or the customer experience. The minister stressed that affordability checks should not hinder investments in the sport or harm its growth.
