Crown Resorts Faces Scrutiny Over Self-Excluded Gamblers Accessing Gaming Floor

Crown Resorts has faced public criticism from the Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC) after self-excluded gamblers were able to access its gaming floor. Self-

excluded patrons are prohibited from entering gambling premises, and Crown Resorts was found deficient in enforcing this rule. The VGCCC stressed that the breaches were due to

system failures, not malicious intent, and emphasized the importance of protecting vulnerable individuals who choose self-exclusion.

In addition to financial penalties, Crown Resorts, now owned by Blackstone Group, will need to hire independent experts to improve their systems and ensure compliance. Blackstone

recently invested AU$500 million into the operator, but Crown’s challenges persist, including leadership changes and layoffs of 1,000 employees due to regulatory pressures and weaker

tourism.
